FOUNDER & MANAGING PARTNER
In 2014, Stephen Sheriff founded Riverhill Ventures, a socially conscious, strategic investment & consulting firm primarily focused on three sectors: quick service restaurants, natural foods, and healthy consumer brands. Stephen served as a freshii (health/wellness QSR concept) franchisee for three years, from 2016-2019. During his time with freshii as a two-store owner/operator, Stephen was responsible for all areas of operations in addition to day-to-day responsibilities: interfacing with corporate on a regular basis, creating partnerships with other local businesses and organizations, human resources, and construction management. This experience provided grass-roots restaurant and general business ownership experience that allowed Stephen to identify his next franchise opportunity quickly and efficiently, Playa Bowls (acai based healthy QSR concept).
In mid-2019, Stephen exited his two freshii stores and Riverhill acquired an ownership stake in four Playa Bowls (QSR) locations. Since the acquisition, Riverhill has provided strategic advice and capital to Playa Bowls through its hospitality-focused subsidiary, The Blackbeard Group. Stephen expanded Riverhill’s Playa Bowls portfolio to eight locations within the Philadelphia/Main Line, Lehigh Valley, and Bucks County, PA regions. He has leveraged his ground-level operational experience from freshii, and knowledge of franchise systems coupled with his strategic advisory experience into presiding over the fastest-growing franchisee group within the Playa Bowls system.
In 2020, Stephen founded the Riverhill group after recognizing the opportunity to support emerging growth companies by utilizing his full-spectrum experience. Riverhill is a strategic advisory & consulting group with a mission to help companies achieve their goals through thoughtful strategic advice, branding support, and best-in-class general advisory.
Stephen is also an investor relations professional at Solebury Trout, a leading life sciences investor relations firm based in New York City. Stephen helps oversee the firm’s day-to-day business development initiatives in addition to providing strategic support to clients.
In addition to his quick-service food experience, Stephen is a seasoned angel investor, operator, and advisor across multiple other sectors including full-service restaurants, mental health tech., consumer foods and retail. Stephen’s most recent & successful investments include: Joolies Organic Medjool Date Snacks & Syrups, Saffron Road, Mayweather Boxing & Fitness (both corporate & franchisee), Kinderfarms, Enroot Beverage, Osso Good Bone Broth, Misunderstood Whiskey, and PsychHub. Stephen has led the discovery and diligence efforts for a family office in making these investments.
